Mark Fletcher is considered a narrative artist who tells stories visually.
His formative years were spent moving to various parts of the country. Formal training in art began at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario. From there he moved on to study at The University of Guelph, a scholarship to study at the Instituto Allende in Mexico and a personal journey to study the great Renaissance works in Italy.
Mark’s paintings extend beyond their physical bounds, there is a strong sense of the spiritual presence of land and time. The suggested movement within the works is dynamic
and invokes feeling which cannot be forgotten or overlooked. His use of vivid colour creates a joy that emanates from the canvases.
The minimalist landscapes he creates are personal and sensitive. His architecture and figures in landscape paintings have and continue to capture the social migration out of rural Canada. He paints a world that has vanished in a single generation, a world of which only fragments remain.
Mark is also a musician who composes and arranges music for various musical groups. He is a multi-instrumentalist whose choices include the bouzouki, classical guitar, highland bagpipes, Irish flute, whistles, accordian and bodhran drum. He has performed at all levels including symphony orchestras. He has had the privilege to perform and be recorded at the Glen Gould Studio at CBC in Toronto, and broadcast nation wide. His passion is Celtic music. |
